Composer Bio
Kiya Heartwood (1960- ) American
Kiya Heartwood ( Stealin Horses, Wishing Chair) is a solo singer-songwriter/ composer. Kiya's larger works include song cycles for women’s and mixed chorus, operettas for young people, soundtracks for independent films and The Gaia Psalms, an earth-based performance worship service for Unitarian Universalist congregations with narration by Rev. Meg Barnhouse. Kiya has a BA from the University of Kentucky Honors Program in Creative Writing and an MA in Cultural Studies from Norwich University. She studied Music Composition at Converse College and Westminster Choir College with composers Dr. Scott Robbins, Dr. Joel Phillips and Dr. Stefan Young. Kiya is a touring performer with over eighteen CDs. She is the former Interim Music Director of Unitarian Universalist Church of Spartanburg SC and has served as Composer -in -Residence at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Princeton in Princeton, NJ. www.kiyaheartwood.com
